The Case of the Sock in the Toilet

Today I was working from home and found an interesting gift in the bathroom, someone had placed a sock in the toilet.
I have a feeling it was Andy, but I still need to check with Laura to see if that is where we are going to keep Andy’s socks from now on.

Pete returns…and has a birthday!

Pete’s 29th birthday was on January 12th and, unfortunately, he had to spend it alone in London.  He was over there working for a week and Andrew and I are VERY happy that he is back.  We were able to spend lots of quality time together!  Here’s a recap of the past week.

Andrew is walking everywhere.  It’s amazing how quickly he started.  He was standing on his own for about a week and the next week he started walking and hasn’t stopped since!  Somehow he ended up underneath one of the bar stools.

It took him a couple of minutes to figure out how to get out!

Last Thursday was a welcomed break from daycare for Andrew and school for me.  With temperatures near -25 degrees, many schools were closed for the day.  We spent the entire day at home.  During the week, we aren’t home during daylight hours so I took advantage of the natural light and snapped many pictures!

One of Andrew’s favorite books is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  My coworker gave him this book (thanks Leanna!) with a very nice note attached to the inside.  Each time we read it to him we’d first read the note, but Andrew figured out how to remove it, so now we’ve turned it into a bookmark!

We did lots of reading on our day off.  He practiced reading in his own rocker.

When he decided that he was done, he thought he could keep smiling and just slip away!

Earlier I had organized his toys and books.  About 3 minutes after all of the books were organized, this is what I found.

That’s when I decided it was time for a time-out chair.  Ok, not really, but that’s what his new booster seat looks like!  After his bath, I plopped him in and he sat there for a few minutes just looking around.

Finally, Pete came home and we were able to celebrate his birthday.  Can you tell who is more excited?  Pete was very jet lagged, but a good sport.  Andrew was over the moon about getting to eat more cake!

After everyone got a good nights sleep, we were able to enjoy one more day (MLK Jr. Day) together before the work week began.  Even though Pete had to work, Andrew found his way over to his office doors many times throughout the day.  A couple of times, he would stand outside the doors and say “hi…hi…hi”, until Pete acknowledged him, then he would laugh and walk away.  Then I heard lots of laughing and saw this.

No wonder I have to clean these doors so often.

Anything to be like his Dad.

Working hard or hardly working?  Either way, we’re just happy that he’s home.

What a Difference a Year Makes

Andrew’s pj’s now…and then.

Jake spent a couple of days with us over winter break.  They had lots of fun together!

T-R-O-U-B-L-E

Laughing about what he’s going to do next.

Andrew thought it would be funny to throw a book under the exersaucer, crawl under to get it, and then stand up.

They were both laughing so hard!

Andrew decided to stop messing around and start helping out with the laundry.

The next day, right after his diaper change, he scampered off to organize the closet.

We had a New Year’s celebration at our house.  Pete decided to make a whop for the party.  I don’t remember any whop parties in St. Cloud having crystal bowls and bundt pan ice rings.  And, yes, that is a soup ladle!

We are official members of the Minnesota Zoo for 2009 (thank you Dick and Mary!) and already made our first trip there.

Andrew loved looking at all of the animals in the tropical area.

Dad and Andrew touched sting rays and sharks!

We celebrated Andrew’s first birthday a day early with lots of family!  Pete and I are hoping to continue the tradition of making cakes for birthdays.  Our first attempt was pretty successful.  It was supposed to be 4 cars, but Pete decided that there should be a combine and fire truck, too.

This was one of mine, STMA (St. Michael/Albertville).

A close up of one of Pete’s.

Andrew’s 12 month picture.  I thought this would be the last one, but Pete thinks we are are going to do it until he leaves home?!

Getting a sneak peak.

The Devereaux’s/Nelson’s/Schneider’s…all on the same continent for one of the first times in years!

Andrew’s present from Grandpa and Grandma Devereaux.  Thank you, Steven, for showing us how it works!

Andrew had lots of cousin’s who wanted to take a ride with him in the wagon!

Finally, the big moment arrived.

Careful at first.

Mmmmm…sugar!

Shoveling it in as fast as he can before Mom and Dad realize what is going on and can take it away.

They saw me!

We are recovering…

After a week full of illness and missed work, we are all working our way back to full health.  This was our first experience with the whole family getting sick at the same time.  We have decided that we’d like it to be our last.  We all had the same flu like symptoms; however, we’ve noticed that each of us handles the pain differently.

Peter started it.  He handled it by sleeping, sleeping, and sleeping some more.  He even denied offers of extra blankets, cold glasses of water, Sprite, crackers, and Tylenol.
Laura had a somewhat more difficult time.  She couldn’t sleep at all and demanded extra blankets, cold water, Sprite, crackers, and Tylenol.  Peter and Andrew decided that they’d rather be sick themselves than have Laura sick.
We don’t think Andrew ever really got sick.  Instead, he was just trying to fit in and do what he thought was acceptable.  Let’s just say that whatever he ate or drank came right back up and he went through about 5 pairs of pants a day.  The rest of the time he was playing, crawling, and babbling as if nothing was wrong.
We are looking forward to a restful weekend and a healthy end to 2009!

Thanksgiving and meeting Santa

Thanksgiving was spent in Cottonwood this year.  We had a great time visiting with Devereaux’s and DeSleer’s.  We didn’t get many pictures but Uncle Steven made sure we took pictures of this:

Steven was up early every morning to set or check his traps.  He wanted to make sure that Andrew saw the three beavers.

We’ll remember this someday when Steven has his own kids.  “Come pet the dead beaver”.

The Sunday after we put our tree up!  Thank goodness for fake, pre-lit trees!  Andrew was more interested in the box.  He’s doing pretty well with the tree so far.  He’ll crawl close to it and then look to see if anyone is watching, we say “No”, and he smiles and crawls away.

In addition to teaching him what no means, I have also taught him to raise his hand when he has something to share.  Maybe he could come in and show my class how this works?

After the tree was up and Andrew was freshly bathed, we decided to try to capture the perfect picture for our Christmas cards.  It didn’t work, he drooled on his shirt and wouldn’t smile!

So we gave up and decided to take his 11 month picture instead.

Yesterday we went to the St. Michael fire station to meet Santa.  While in line, we noticed some other Schneider’s doing the same thing!

The line was long so Andrew worked on his standing skills while we waited.

Uncle Bill and Allison came over for a visit!

Getting closer to Santa!

Santa seemed to be doing a great job with the kids.  He would sit and talk to each one for awhile.

When it was Andrew’s turn, Santa got kind of anxious and didn’t really know what to do with him.

He was holding him kind of funny and it was only a matter of time before Andrew would start to whine.

This picture sums up Andrew’s first meeting with Santa.  Both giving each other strange looks.

We came home and noticed our neighbor out clearing off an area to ice skate on the pond.

Then this morning, Andrew watched the ice skating area get covered by snow again!

He watched the snow come down for about 15 minutes!
