Goodbye Billy Ruben!!!

After our daily hospital visit today, we got the call that Andrew’s biliruben levels have dropped and we can send the biliruben belt back! Also, he is back up to his weight of 5lbs. 8oz. from last Tuesday when we first left the hospital.

More good news – Andrew’s very own carseat and stroller arrived today. Thank you to the Hagen’s for letting us borrow your extra one!

Who is Billy Ruben anyway?

After only being home for a day Andrew’s bilirubin level had risen since we took him home from the hospital. To battle off jaundice he had to wear a special light filled blanket.

This morning we found out that his bilirubin level has peaked and he no longer has to wear the blanket…Thank God!

Bilirubin– is a yellow breakdown product of normal heme catabolism. Its levels are elevated in certain diseases and it is responsible for the yellow colour of bruises and the brown colour of feces. Bilirubin reduction in the gut leads to a product called urobilinogen, which is excreted in urine.

Jaundice– is usually harmless: this condition is often seen in infants around the second day after birth, lasting until day 8 in normal births, or to around day 14 in premature births.

Welcome Home Andrew

After only 3 nights in the hospital and visits from family and friends, Andrew was finally ready to come home to Mom and Dad’s house.

Welcome to the World Andrew Joseph Schneider!

Andrew Joseph Schneider was an unexpected blessing joining us several weeks early. He was born on Saturday January 5th at 2:57 am at the Buffalo, MN hospital. Even though he is considered premature he was born at a healthy 5 lbs 14 oz (19.5 inches).

Andrew is doing very well and we are really enjoying this gift from God.
