Rain, rain, go away

Andrew and I are enjoying a day at home today.  We had planned on going to the Children’s Museum today, but after watching my 14 year old neighbor slip and slide while trying to walk up his driveway, I decided that our plans were going to change.  We did venture out at 9:00 to get groceries.  The roads probably would have been fine…maybe we’ll try again tomorrow.

Pete has landed safely in the middle east, but his luggage is still in Minnesota.  He has his computer bag and 5 pairs of black socks.  It’s 10:30pm where he is and he’s in a taxi to the mall to buy some new pants.  Hoping his things get to him soon!

Andrew is tucked into his bed and sleeping peacefully (or playing with toys in his room very quietly).  I just brewed another pot of coffee (most days I don’t even have time to finish 1 cup!) and am about to pick up a book.

Hope you are able to enjoy this rainy/snowy day!

Camping

Andrew and I arrived home on Friday and found this in our living room:

Peter had decided that we should let Andrew try out his new sleeping bag.  I thought it would just be a slumber party in the living room.  Clearly, I underestimated.  It was a fun night and I even “rented” a Harold and the Purple Crayon DVD from school

Andrew loved it and did great until about 1:30 in the morning when he kept standing up.  One of us would lay him back down, a few minutes later he was up again.  At about 2:00, we were all sleeping soundly in our beds!

This afternoon we’re on our way to the Mall of America to see the Underwater Adventure.  We’ll be able to get a family pass for the year for around $20 (normally $20 per adult) because Andrew is still free and I get a discount for being a teacher.  Then we’ll be dropping Pete off at the airport so he can utilize the extra pages that he had put into his passport!

Have a good week!

Elefun

We are having “hele-fun” with Elefun.  With one deep breath, the elephant blows his huge trunk straight up, sending colorful butterflies into the air. Kids can practice their catching skills with the butterfly net or hurry to gather the butterflies off the floor.  Warning this game will also bring out the competitive side of parents!

As you can see Andy has put a twist on this game by catching his head in the net.

Mommy Doseph Neider

The time between getting home from work/daycare and dinner is always a busy one.  One of us is usually playing with Andrew while the other is getting dinner ready.  Today Pete was finishing up some work, so Andrew was left to fend for himself for a bit.  Not one to go unnoticed for long, he pulled up his chair to the counter to “help mommy”.  After a couple of reminders to not stand on his chair, I said “Andrew Joseph Schneider, you need to sit down”.  He pointed his finger at me and said “Mommy Doseph Neider, you sit down!”.

Happy Birthday, dear Andrew!

We can’t believe that Andrew is 2 today!

Of course we took the traditional milestone picture by the football.  We got him to smile by telling him that he would get cake.

We let him open a few presents and he immediately put one on his head and ran around the house shouting “yook at me!”.

Then we each tried to get a picture with the birthday boy.

Very cute!

After dinner and a couple more presents (thank you Grandma’s and Grandpa’s…and Aunt Erin’s) it was finally time for cake.

Last year I found a birthday plate for us to use on our special day!

He loved it.

Pete won the contest of which cake to make.  Andrew requested a school bus cake and that’s what he got.

Poor kid just couldn’t figure out how to do it.

After cake (and a bath) we played a few games of Elefun (Thank you, Amy!).  Andrew has played this at daycare so it was fun to watch him set it up and show us what to do!

We think he had a great day!  There is still some cake leftover so we are planning on lighting the candles again and doing that part of it again tomorrow night!

We’re still working on learning about our new digs over here at WordPress.  It should be easier for us to post, hopefully clearer pictures, and more user friendly.  There are still a few issues that we’re dealing with but we hope to be back to a new normal soon!

Children’s Museum

Today Grandpa and Grandma Schneider met us at the Minnesota Children’s Museum.

This is the first time that we have visited the museum since becoming members (thanks Mom and Dad!). This is a perfect activity for families with young children especially when the temperature dips below zero.

Some of the activities include an area dedicated to water, an assembly line, an area based on the Earth (including a a small stream and an aquarium with a suicidal turtle)…

There is a also a special exhibit about Dinosaurs…this was Andy’s favorite! He loved roaring at them, until he realized that when they are life size they do resemble “scary monsters”
One of the best parts of the dino exhibit was an excavating sandbox
that was filled with

something that looked
like thepepper flakes they serve at Pizza Hut…Andy had tons of fun

Our top 10 videos from 2009

Thank you for reading Team Schneider, we have enjoyed sharing pictures and videos with you over the past couple of years.
In 2009 we posted more than 50 videos, so we decided to recap 2009 with some of our favorites.
10. “Achooo” – this simple thriller brought smiles to the faces of many and showcases Andrew’s “fake sneezing” phase
9. “Singing to Aunt Chris” – this Christmas time classic is a short preview of the many songs Andrew sings on a daily basis
8. “Andy Wants to Drive the Car”
7. “Andy Counting to 10” – One of those things he picked up at daycare…
6. “Learning is Love” – This heartfelt video featuring the true meaning of dirt, took home the best video of the week for the Mofilm Cannes Film festival
5. “Boo” – We had to teach Andrew how to scare people, this was our attempt
4. “Andy Has a Strange New Pastime” – I have no idea how this started…
3. “Andy goes from dirty to clean thanks to a bubble bath” – this is a daily occurrence
2. “Andrew Walking” – a better title for this video should be “getting back up again”
1. “Why are people saying Andy can speak French, Fight like a Ninja and was attacked by a bear….”
What was your favorite? We would love to know!!
Thanks again and we look forward to sharing more in 2010!
